Security Tips

Tip #1.
After you are done working with the server make sure you Logout. To logout simply click on the "Log Out" link. It's simple, easy to do, and keeps people from using your computer to do something they are not supposed to be doing like changing or deleting your information. Take note that closing your web browser does not log you out of the system.

Tip #2
Change your password and change it often. You do not need to change your password once a day, once a week, or even once a month. Once a semester is fine. Refer to the "How To Change Your Password" video to learn how to do so.

Tip #3
Store your login and password in a safe place. A post it on your computer is usually not a good idea.

Tip #4
Make sure your password is not too short and not too easy to guess. A common mistake that people do is setting their password to something that is either too common or too familiar. Examples are:
name of a significant other
name of a son or daughter
name of a pet
the word "education"

Suggestions:
A combination of the following is an easy way to build a password:

  • Your address
  • Your telephone number
  • Your birthdate
  • The name of your place of origin
  • A word that is familiar to you but backwards

For example: Here's a password that is a combination of the word UNLV, the department's telephone number, and the word education backwards
unlv8954898noitacude

Tip #5
Do not share your login and password information with anybody.
