| Biography: Shaoan (Shawn) Zhang is an assistant professor of teacher education who joined the UNLV faculty in 2007. Dr. Zhang earned a B.A. and a M.A. from the Hebei Normal University, China. He earned a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the Old Dominion University. His dissertation research focused on the appropriateness and teaching effectiveness of teacher self-disclosure. His current research interests include the study of teacher self-disclosure, secondary education, and multicultural education. Dr. Zhang is an active member in the American Education Research Association (AERA). In 2000-2007, he worked as a research assistant for three educational grants sponsored by Department of Education: Teaching American History Grant for Newport News Public Schools, Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP) for Newport News Public Schools, ACCT Now: The Old Dominion University and Brunswick County Schools Program for Aligning Credential Training with Technology. He was a principal investigator of the grant, How to Cultivate the College Students' Qualities through English Teaching, which was sponsored by Hebei Normal University. In 1998 - 1999, he participated in the United Nations Development Program in China Project No.401: Teacher Training for the Rural Areas in China. In 1984-2003, Dr. Zhang was engaged in English education and he was a specialist in English teacher training in China. |
