| Biography: Maria G. Ramirez, an associate professor of second language literacy, joined the UNLV faculty in 1989. She has served on numerous boards, provided reports to governmental agencies and school districts, delivered papers at professional meetings, served as the primary investigator of numerous state and federally funded grants, contributed to journals, and co-authored several books, but the establishment of a Bilingual Education endorsement in Nevada remains the accomplishment that best characterizes Dr. Ramirez's lifelong commitment to the education of second language students. Dr. Ramirez, a teacher educator with vast university experience, has held faculty positions at universities in Texas, Washington, Alabama, and Kansas, but her teaching and administrative experience spans the K-12 levels as a teacher and administrator. Additionally, she has directed several undergraduate and graduate programs at the different university where she has held tenure-track positions. Her primary commitment remains to teaching and students, which has been acknowledged through teaching awards she has received. Dr. Ramirez is first and foremost a teacher. |
