Biography: Cari Klecka is an assistant professor of teacher education. She joined the UNLV faculty in 2004 after completing her doctoral work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her dissertation research focused on the nature of participation and knowledge within a distributed community of practice. Her current research focuses on examining communities as contexts for learning to teach, cross-institutional partnerships and the role of mentoring in learning to teach. She currently is working in collaboration with Clark County School District on the Initiative on National Board Certification. This program provides multiple pathways to support for teachers pursuing National Board Certification and teacher leader positions at both the school and district level. Dr. Klecka is an active member in the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) and belongs to the American Education Research Association (AERA). She is a member of the Commission on the Assessment of the Teacher Educator Standards in which she chairs a subcommittee facilitating a cohort of teacher educators developing their professional portfolios. Dr. Klecka also serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Teacher Education.
